Report Elements and Page Resources

Report Elements and Page Resources are the elemental building blocks that make up the content of each report page. Drag and drop report elements and page resources on to the current page or onto the document tree.  You can also double click on a page resource icon to add that resource onto a page at the current cursor position.

The Report Element is the most important page element.  It allows you to define your reporting requirements. Target Report document can have an unlimited number of report elements. Layout and type of each report element can be changed with a single mouse click.  You can drag these these icons onto your report page or double click to insert a new report element at the cursor.

Free Layout  - a free layout element creates an area within the report document where instead of a free flowing paginated layout like you might find in a word processor, you have exact placement and scaling capabilities like you would find in a drawing program.  Free layout is an element designed to contain other elements and as such, it pops open a new window where you edit all that is contained within the free layout.  A document (or report project) may contain one or more free layout elements.  A free layout element can encompass the entire report document or share the document with other elements and/or other free layouts.

Other Page Resources:

The heading page element is a text field that acts as a heading for another page element. It can be inserted anywhere in a document.

The text page element is an editable text field where you can write anything you choose. It can be inserted anywhere in the document.

The image page element represents an arbitrary visual image which can be loaded from a graphic file. The following formats are supported: BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG. It can be inserted anywhere in the document.

The page break element creates a new page wherever it is placed, and also separates page resources by placing them on different pages.  This is only effective for paginated output types, for example, HTML is not paginated, RTF and PDF are paginated.

The table of contents page element creates a table of contents, tables or figures when published. This tool scans the entire document and generates the desired table.

The date page element displays the current date (as set by your computer settings) or the arbitrary date (as defined by you). It may be placed anywhere in the document.

The page number displays the page number of the page in the document. It may be inserted in the header or footer of the document.
