File (Output)

To get to this dialog in TextConverter, click the Set Output DB Table button () in the upper right pane (the Output Pane) of the user interface, then click the File tab.

The "File" pane of the database connectivity dialog provides database access to flat files and file based database tables. Use this tab to navigate the file system to connect to DBase, FoxPro, MS Access, Excel, text files, etc. Double click on a folder in the file system tree (left part of the pane) to browse the list of available database resources for that folder.

The data connectivity dialog is used to connect to an existing data source or to set a file/table name for a new data source, which will be created as a result of a future process (tool specific). In the first case, the "Set" button reads as "Open" and you can not connect to a nonexisting data source.  In the second case, you can type in a new table name, which will be used in the future to create a new table. Click "Set" (or "Open") when you have selected your data source.

The dialog offers slightly different features for each output file type depending on the selection in the "File of Type" combo box at the bottom of the panel. Below is the dialog with the "File of Type" property set to "Text Files (*.csv, *.txt)" designed to handle delimited and positional output text files.

The Field List pane at the right side of the dialog shows the list of fields in the connected table. The properties at the right allow to choose the Delimited or Positional output file format, as well as the Field and Line delimiters and Text qualifier.

When working with file-based databases like MS Access or Excel, selecting a database name in the file list will display a list of tables located in that database. Select a table from the table list to connect to it:
