Data Browser

Data Browser is a visual analytical tool used in relevant contexts throughout the entire Target platform for on-the-fly data analysis. It supports visual data querying via dynamic views based on an unlimited number of data sources, provides the ability to apply data filtering and aggregation, allows recursive and summary calculated fields, unlimited sorting, and more. The Data Browser can also be used as a data processing component in multi-step automated processing projects.

The Data Browser is integrated with TextConverter and TARGET Reports and can be launched from within these SiMX applications. The data browser is also provided as a fully functional automation component with the TARGET Data Processing Suite (TDPS) and the TARGET Application Development Suite (TADS) In TextConverter, the data browser is accessed by clicking () the data browser icon after the project has been run ().  In TARGET Reports, the data browser is accessed by clicking () the browse icon.

The Tool Bar

New project. Clears all project attributes and sets all properties to default. 

 Opens an existing project file. Project files store the details of each Data Browser, TextConverter, or TARGET Reports project. 

 Saves the current project to a file.

 Opens the property editor pane.  The property editor pane has tabs for "Dictionary", "Scope", and "View". Check the Design View box to design a view or join another table.

Dictionary allows you to add fields that are defined through SQL.

Scope allows you to limit the data set or set of records displayed through a simple, menu driven, SQL interface.

View allows you to sort and group the data set displayed.

 applies any changes made in any of the above tabs.

 Displays the data in a tabular view with rows representing records and columns representing fields. Displays a summary view of the data set constructed in the view tab of the property editor pane.  Construct your view by adding fields to the "Group by" and "Sort by" columns in the upper right half of the property editor pane, then define the fields that you will see summary (or meta) data for in the lower right half of the property editor pane. The "Auto Select" checkbox allows you to see updates to the data you are browsing immediately without pushing the select button. The help icon takes you to the help site (where you are now).

Edit

Find, Find Next, Find Previous - opens the search dialog where you can construct simple SQL statements to find specific values in specific fields.  This is not a free form search.  A free form search is available with ctrl-f in the TextConverter preview pane.

Delete Records - Editing features are disabled in the version provided.

Edit Cell - Editing features are disabled in the version provided.

Editable - Editing features are disabled in the version provided.

View

Data Object - Opens the property editor pane.  The property editor pane has tabs for "Dictionary", "Scope", and "View".

View allows you to sort and group the data set displayed.

 Remove Column(s) - select any column and choose this option to remove the column from the browsed data shown.

 Calculate Statistics - this feature is disabled in the current version provided.

Help - The help menu provides various help, registration, and version related services.  Some of the items on the help menu require a web browser and internet connection to access.
