Tag-based Fields
The steps to a tag based conversion/data extraction process
Load the input file by dropping the file on TextConverter or choosing "Load input file" from the file menu
Highlight one of more tag(s), Right click and choose "Add tag"
By default, the system will choose a value near the tag, to adjust this, highlight the correct value, right click and choose "Set value for - tag name"
Set the output data source or data file that will receive the extracted data
Save the project and set up any automation for processing additional files
Run the conversion!
Sometimes, files may contain data that span multiple lines. A common example of this is an address field. In this sample, we will generate a multi-line template to extract the address, in a header level field, from the EZPass statement.
Load the input file:
Open the TextConverter program
Drag and drop the input file (EZPass_Statement.pdf) to the main pane from a system folder.
Optional: Check the Single Line Positional Template sample to learn how to extract the detailed fields first.
Set the template:
Select some text to serve as the "tag." We will use "Statement Date" as the tag.
If a different default value is set for the tag, remove it.
Select the block of text you would like to use. We selected the address block beginning with "James Bond"
Right click-> Set Value For-> Select the tag you just made. Notice how this automatically changes the value that was set for "Statement Date"
Drag and drop the tag from the Input Dictionary to the Output Dictionary. Notice how the Preview will automatically update with your new tag.
If the output field truncates your desired text, simply change the width of the field. We will change it to a general value, such as 100.
Congratulations, you have set a template using tags!
